Updated Guidelines for Face Masks

January 24, 2022 - 5:22pm

Face Masks

  • Masks must be worn in indoor spaces and classrooms
  • Masks must be worn outdoors if you cannot maintain six feet social distance
  • Masks must be worn in cars or buses for University activities
  • Masks must be worn at all events
  • N95 masks are recommended but NOT required
  • Face masks must have at least two layers of cotton to meet public health orders
  • Fitted masks are required, neck gaiters and bandanas are not effective

Although N95 masks are currently proven to be the most effective against the spread of COVID-19 and its variants, they are not mandated. Guidelines for mask requirements can be found here. There is no requirement to wear N95 masks to enter and participate in campus activities.

The reason N95 Masks cannot be mandated on campus is that there are some situations where N95 masks can exacerbate medical conditions for the wearer. The campus community is encouraged to wear N95 masks if they are able.

N95 and surgical masks are available for free to the campus community at the following distribution sites: College Creek Mailroom, JGC mailroom, UPD, Welcome Center, Library, and the SAC.
