Update on COVID-19 Related Leave Programs
Below is a brief summary of current options that are available to employees (including student employees) who need to take leave for COVID-19 related reasons. Please note that faculty are now eligible for 128 hours under the Expanded COVID-19 Related Leave Program.
1. CSU’s Expanded COVID-19 Related Leave Program (ECRL)
128 hours for all employees; prorated based on timebase (except Teamsters)
256 hours for Teamsters
80 hours of sick leave under Senate Bill 95* (included in the 128 and 256 hours noted above)
Expires December 31, 2021
2. Paid Sick Leave under *Senate Bill 95 (signed by Governor Newson on March 19, 2021)
Provides supplemental paid sick leave for employees in the State of California who are unable to work or telework due to COVID-19.
80 hours for retired annuitants/Faculty Early Retirement Program participants (80 hours for staff include in ECRL as noted above)
Expires September 30, 2021
3. Sick Leave
8 hours/month accrued for full-time employees
4. Vacation
Accrual rates vary by Collective Bargaining Agreement and length of service
5. Compensatory Time Off for non-exempt employee (CTO)
Employees can use CTO hours previously earned. (Non-exempt employees have the option of requesting compensatory time in lieu of overtime wages.)
Qualifying Reasons For A COVID-19 Related Leave
Employee is subject to a quarantine or isolation period related to COVID-19 as defined by federal, state, or local orders or guidelines.
Employee has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19.
Employee is attending an appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Employee is experiencing symptoms related to a COVID-19 vaccine that prevent the employee from being able to work or telework.
Employee is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and seeking a medical diagnosis.
Employee is caring for a family member who is subject to a quarantine or isolation order or guideline or who has been advised to self-quarantine by a health care provider due to concerns related to COVID-19.
Employee is caring for a child whose school or place of care is closed or otherwise unavailable for reasons related to COVID-19.
Requesting ECRL or Paid Sick Leave under SB 95
Employees should request ECRL by submitting a Request for Expanded COVID-19 Related Leave Form (see links below) to their appropriate administrator and self-certify the reason for the leave. Administrators should provide signed ECRL request forms to Ariel.Aaron@humboldt.edu.
Reporting in Absence Management
If requesting leave for the current month, employees should choose the “PAL/FFCRA” leave code and indicate “ECRL” or “PSL” in the comments section.
