Reminders as We Start the Fall semester

August 14, 2020 - 2:31pm

The following message was sent to all students today:

Dear Students,

Fall semester is almost here! You might be feeling excited and, at the same time, apprehensive about getting started—and that’s understandable! Our lives have changed dramatically, and making decisions is more complicated than ever.

Please know that your health and safety is our priority. While we’re still planning to offer limited face-to-face courses this semester, things can change quickly based on what’s happening on campus and in the local community. So we’re fully prepared to offer remote instruction for all courses. If that happens, we’ll be here for you.

As you get ready for the start of the semester, please keep in mind:

  • Humboldt’s plans are based on state and local health guidance and subject to change. You will be notified immediately of any changes that may affect you. Watch your Humboldt email and check campusready.humboldt.edu for updates.
  • Humboldt County is not on California’s COVID-19 Monitoring List at this time. While the overall number of COVID-19 cases in Humboldt County is relatively low, the number of confirmed community spread cases has risen in August, prompting Humboldt County Public Health to increase the alert level to a 3 out of 4.
  • A 14-day quarantine period is still required for anyone who travels from outside Humboldt County. Read the full details of Humboldt’s health and safety requirements.
  • Don’t forget to adhere to the Social Responsibility Commitment. It is up to us as members of the Humboldt community to keep our campus safe.
  • If you plan to live on campus and have to move out at any point, you won't be charged for the remaining time on your license agreement and there are no penalties for cancelling. Contact Housing & Residence Life immediately if you don't plan to live on campus at housing@humboldt.edu
  • Orientation for new students is virtual.
  • Need a laptop or other technology? Let us know, and we’ll get you what you need.

We know plans can change last-minute! So if you decide an in-person class isn’t for you:

  • Your instructor will do their best to provide you an alternative to the face-to-face class offering.
  • You may sign up for another, fully online class and take the face-to-face class in the spring or next academic year, depending on what face-to-face offerings will be available in the future. This option may work for students who are not graduating in the near future.
  • Please be sure to talk with your advisor regarding your decision.

Policies for tuition and fees have been adjusted to provide you more financial flexibility:

  • You can still take classes if you owe Fall 2020 tuition but you will not be able to register for Spring 2021 classes until your balance is paid.
  • If you are not planning to enroll at Humboldt this semester, you must withdraw from all classes by August 23, the day before classes begin, to avoid fees.
  • Please check your To Do List in your Student Center for any outstanding items and verify that you have “accepted” your financial aid.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding and we're looking forward to the start of the semester!
