In this message: Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, COVID-19 and Election Day, Free Flu Shots for Students

To keep the campus community informed, Humboldt State University will regularly send this e-newsletter with recent updates about HSU’s Fall semester, Spring semester, plus highlights of important current or new guidelines.

This information reflects the ongoing work and decision making of the Emergency Operations Center, Focused Instructional Transition Team, Advanced Planning Team, and the President’s Administrative Team— the groups tasked with creating guidelines and procedures for campus operations during the pandemic. Find comprehensive information about pandemic planning, preparedness, and operations at the HSU Campus Ready Website.

Social Responsibility

HSU looks very different this semester to keep everyone safe and to support the success of our students. Check out these videos for a reminder as we continue face-to-face classes.

Halloween and Dia de los Muertos

Like all holidays this year, Halloween and Dia de los Muertos during the pandemic will need to look quite different -- especially as the nation experiences a new wave of covid-19 cases.

While there are currently no known active COVID-19 cases among students and employees, it’s important to remember your Social Responsibility Commitment and to remain vigilant about the health and safety of yourself and others. Also, please review guidelines on celebrating Halloween and Dia de los Muertos from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), which strongly discourages traditional trick-or-treating and encourages families to plan safer alternatives…” Check the CDPH website for details on what you can do to reduce your risk to exposure to COVID-19

COVID-19 and Election Day

COVID-19 and Election Day
If you are voting in person, please don’t forget to wear a face covering and keep a safe distance from others. It’s also helpful to be prepared before going to your polling place, such as bringing your own supplies like water and a black ink pen. For health and safety tips for voters, go to the CDC’s website.

Reminder: Free Flu Shots for Students

Student Health & Wellbeing Services strongly encourages everyone to receive a flu shot. Getting the influenza vaccine will reduce the number of coughs and fevers on campus. It will reduce the burden on local health care resources including HSU Student Health & Wellbeing Services and on local hospitals. For individuals, getting the flu vaccine may prevent a fever and cough that will lead to quarantine and isolation while COVID-19 testing is pending.

Student Health & Wellbeing Services has partnered with Safeway Pharmacy to offer the convenience of on-campus free flu vaccinations for fully matriculated HSU students and to staff and faculty for $34 check or credit card on-site. If you have insurance you can talk with your primary care provider or pharmacy about getting your flu shot.

Flu Vaccine Clinics
