To keep the campus community informed, Humboldt State University will regularly send this e-newsletter with recent updates about HSU’s Fall semester, Spring semester, plus highlights of important current or new guidelines.

This information reflects the ongoing work and decision making of the Emergency Operations Center, Focused Instructional Transition Team, Advanced Planning Team, and the President’s Administrative Team— the groups tasked with creating guidelines and procedures for campus operations during the pandemic. Find comprehensive information about pandemic planning, preparedness, and operations at the HSU Campus Ready Website.

Social Responsibility

HSU looks very different this semester to keep everyone safe and to support the success of our students. Check out these videos for a reminder as we continue face-to-face classes.

Face-to-Face Instruction Ends Nov. 6

Beginning Monday, Nov. 9, all classes will return to fully virtual instruction. Visit campusready.humboldt.edu for more information about virtual instruction and resources to help you keep learning and teaching.

Fall Break and Travel

Faculty and staff returning from travel outside Humboldt County are encouraged to quarantine for 14 days before returning to campus. Students returning from travel outside Humboldt County must quarantine for 14 days in their residence. This means not attending face-to-face classes, not visiting campus services, and not returning to your in-person job—unless you work virtually, you'll miss at least 14 days of work. And keep in mind that HSU has limited quarantine spaces available for Housing residents.

Student Resident Information

Students living on campus who plan to return in January are not required to stay in housing after Nov. 6 and may leave their belongings until the start of the Spring semester. Students will be tested for COVID-19 upon returning to HSU housing.

Students who elect to leave for the rest of the Fall semester and don’t plan to return for Spring will be released from the remaining rent and board charges by following the Request to Vacate procedure that was emailed out recently to all Housing residents. Contact Housing with any questions about this process: housing@humboldt.edu or 707.826.3451.

COVID-19 Testing for Students

New hours for walk-in COVID-19 testing for students at the Student Health Center are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 10 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Learn more about medical services and counseling available to students at the Student Health and Wellbeing Services website.

Free Flu Shots for Students

Student Health & Wellbeing Services strongly encourages everyone to receive a flu shot. Getting the influenza vaccine will reduce the number of coughs and fevers on campus. It will reduce the burden on local health care resources including HSU Student Health & Wellbeing Services and on local hospitals. For individuals, getting the flu vaccine may prevent a fever and cough that will lead to quarantine and isolation while COVID-19 testing is pending.

Student Health & Wellbeing Services has partnered with Safeway Pharmacy to offer the convenience of on-campus free flu vaccinations for fully matriculated HSU students and to staff and faculty for $34 check or credit card on-site. If you have insurance you can talk with your primary care provider or pharmacy about getting your flu shot.

Flu Vaccine Clinics

Wednesday, Nov. 4 9 a.m.-4 p.m. HSU Quad

Please remember to wear a face covering and following social distancing guidelines. Read the Health & Safety guide of the Campus Ready website for more details. And don't forget to bring your student ID.
