Cal/OSHA Policy Update: Face Coverings Temporarily Still Required Indoors

June 22, 2021 - 8:10am

Conforming its mask requirements with California Department of Public Health and CDC, Cal/OSHA has approved new rules that fully vaccinated people do not need to wear a mask while indoors at a workplace. Unvaccinated people will need to remain masked indoors.

However, this policy change is not yet in effect at Humboldt State University.

Humboldt State will align its policy with Cal/OSHA’s new rules and with policies and processes that are being developed by the California State University.

Until those details are settled, staff, faculty, and students must continue to wear face coverings in most cases while indoors on campus and outdoors anytime you cannot maintain a 6-foot distance from others—even if you are fully vaccinated.

While indoors, face coverings are required anytime you are not in your own unshared workspace with a way to manage the entry of others, such as with a closed door. If this is a space someone else may need to enter, such as a lab or other operational space, you must wear it even when no one else is present.

Also, anytime you are in common spaces such as hallways, bathrooms, break rooms, foyers, lobbies, and similar, you must wear a face covering, even if no one else is present.
