Humboldt State University is monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and closely working with, and following stringent guidelines from, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), State of California, and Humboldt County health agencies.

Dear Faculty Colleagues,
The COVID-19 situation continues to change rapidly. To assure instructional continuity, teaching operations need to be fully virtual by Thursday, March 26. Further, you will have access to your office only for the purpose of gathering what you need. You will need to move your on campus teaching operations to an off campus location by close of business Wednesday, March 25.
HSU’s current plans are aligned with the order.
Essential employees in support of critical functions will work on campus. All other employees must telecommute.
Everyone is asked to maintain social distancing of 6 feet.
By now you’ve heard that Humboldt State University has cancelled the May 16 Commencement ceremony to protect the safety of our Lumberjack community and their families. Families and students eligible to graduate are being contacted with more details.
Please know that this decision wasn’t taken lightly. Commencement is a special day recognizing milestone achievements and we, like you, share in the disappointment that we won’t be celebrating these accomplishments in person.
Humboldt State has suspended all non-essential travel for the remainder of the Spring semester, which is consistent with CSU guidelines that are intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Here’s some guidance for staff and faculty on instructions for making purchases and how to cancel trips through Concur and Accounts Payable.
PURCHASING INSTRUCTIONS
General Purchasing
As HSU transitions to operating virtually through the end of the semester, many University employees will be working remotely. The appropriate Vice President, working through supervisors, must approve any telecommuting requests.
HSU’s Information Technology Services has been working hard to help the campus switch to alternate modes of instruction, and a survey sent to faculty and students on Friday has helped guide the response.
ITS has also launched a new website with resources for working from home.

Humboldt State University is working to maintain as much flexibility as possible for student employees, while also attempting to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19.
Based on guidelines from the California State University system, student employees are expected to continue reporting to work as long as the campus is open, they are scheduled to work, and work is available to be performed. Student employees may be allowed to telecommute if their work can be done remotely.
