Humboldt State University is monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and closely working with, and following stringent guidelines from, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), State of California, and Humboldt County health agencies.

  • The California State University system has approved Humboldt State University offering limited face-to-face courses this fall.
  • HSU is operating virtually. 
  • HSU’s plans are aligned with the Humboldt County 'Shelter in Place' order. All access to campus facilities is closed to the general public.

  • El sistema de la Universidad Estatal de California (CSU) aprobó a la Universidad Estatal de Humboldt que ofrezca cursos limitados cara-a-cara este otoño.

Humboldt State University is welcoming back thousands of students today, March 26, and they are all utilizing virtual instruction and support services. 

In addition to health and safety, the University has prioritized efforts to help students continue making progress toward their degrees. Faculty and staff took advantage of the Spring Break period and an additional three days of preparation this week to prepare.

Humboldt State University is committed to supporting your education in light of the circumstances related to COVID-19. As a result, HSU has developed guidelines on refunds, which are consistent with campus policies, Title 5 CCR § 41802 (Title 5) regulations, and guiding principles established by the California State University’s Chancellor Office.

Since our last employee memorandum, the Chancellor’s Office provided systemwide guidance on COVID-19 employee matters. As a result of the communication, we have revised the FAQs related to Human Resources to include CSU mandates and to clarify additional information for supervisors and employees. The employment-related FAQs will be updated as new information is available.

The health and wellbeing of our campus community continues to be HSU’s priority as the University transitions into virtual operations and alternative modes of instruction. 

As a reminder, anyone returning to campus is encouraged to follow HSU travel guidelines, based on the international and domestic travel guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control.

The situation changes often but your University is committed to making adjustments to support your learning.

Humboldt State University is working to ensure our students, employees, and the community can access the assistance they need in a timely manner. This requires consistent use of phone and email systems, as described below. 

With a virtual campus operation, HSU staff should check their office phone voicemail at least once an hour, and more frequently if needed, during normal University business hours. Please be sure to respond to all incoming calls within 24-48 hours. To check your voicemails:

Thank you all for your feedback, ideas, and questions during this ever changing, unprecedented time.  The purpose of this memo is to reassure you that student employment has been and continues to be a top priority for Humboldt State University. 

What follows are some common questions that we have received in the Human Resources Office, and their answers. 

 

Which employees are NOT allowed to come to work right now?

There will be free chartered buses from HSU to San Francisco and Los Angeles leaving Monday, March 23 at 7:30 a.m. 

The buses will only be filled at half capacity to allow students social distancing from one another, as well as for students to bring their belongings. 

There is currently enough space for 28 students. Seats are first come first serve and students will be notified if they received a seat by Saturday, March 21. If there is enough demand by Saturday, March 21 by noon, HSU may add 14 additional seats.
