Humboldt State University is monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and closely working with, and following stringent guidelines from, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), State of California, and Humboldt County health agencies.

  • The California State University system has approved Humboldt State University offering limited face-to-face courses this fall.
  • HSU is operating virtually. 
  • HSU’s plans are aligned with the Humboldt County 'Shelter in Place' order. All access to campus facilities is closed to the general public.

No Humboldt State students tested positive today as testing of all new on-campus residence continues. 

A total of three student residents have tested positive. They had not shown symptoms or felt ill prior to moving into the residence halls.

The affected students have been moved to rooms on campus that are set aside for isolation. The University is providing ongoing support including frequent health and wellness checks with the students, as well as delivery of meals and other necessities.

Based on the results of ongoing testing on campus, public health officials have confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 affecting members of the Humboldt State University community. 

The individuals who tested positive are students who recently moved into campus housing. 

The students have been moved to rooms on campus that are set aside for isolation. The University will be providing ongoing support including frequent health and wellness checks with the students, as well as delivery of meals and other necessities.

Humboldt State University has learned that a staff member has recently had a positive test for COVID-19. The employee was not tested on campus and the case is not related to HSU’s recent move-in day. 

HSU is working closely with Humboldt County Public Health in responding to information about this test result.

Based on the results of ongoing testing on campus, public health officials have confirmed a case of COVID-19 that has affected a member of the Humboldt State University community. This is the first confirmed case connected to the campus.

The individual who tested positive is a student who recently moved into campus housing.

This afternoon, on Friday, August 14, 2020, the Humboldt County Health Officer informed Humboldt State of its expectation that every student who will be living on campus this term be tested for COVID-19 upon their arrival to the campus (and periodically thereafter).

To this end, our campus partners from Facilities Management and Environmental Health and Safety need additional information in order to comply with necessary protocols required by public health. Please start working with your Department Chairs to provide the necessary information. Below are details of what is being requested:

As a community, we have a responsibility to ourselves, the campus community, and local residents. Here is how you can help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

Face coverings and social distancing are some of the most important ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and both are required on campus in most circumstances. 

When you are on campus you’re expected to stay at least six feet from other people whenever possible. Do not gather in groups and stay away from crowds, and make sure to follow all instructions that will be posted on campus signs.
