Humboldt State University is monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and closely working with, and following stringent guidelines from, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), State of California, and Humboldt County health agencies.

  • The California State University system has approved Humboldt State University offering limited face-to-face courses this fall.
  • HSU is operating virtually. 
  • HSU’s plans are aligned with the Humboldt County 'Shelter in Place' order. All access to campus facilities is closed to the general public.

  • El sistema de la Universidad Estatal de California (CSU) aprobó a la Universidad Estatal de Humboldt que ofrezca cursos limitados cara-a-cara este otoño.

Based on new guidance provided today by the California State University system, Humboldt State University will continue offering most courses in a virtual format for Spring 2021.

With two weeks of the semester under your belt, you might be making plans ahead of the long holiday weekend. As tempting as it may be to plan a trip, a backyard barbeque, or a beach bonfire with friends, it’s critical to remember this will not be a typical Labor Day weekend.

Two HSU students who live off-campus tested positive for COVID-19. The students chose to be tested at the Student Health Center and are self-isolating off-campus. 

Overall, eight students have tested positive. Six are campus residents, two of whom have been released from isolation by Humboldt County Public Health. A University employee who was affected by COVID-19 has also been released from isolation by County Public Health.

Each day before coming to campus, everyone, including students, is required to do a wellness self-check. Taking your own temperature is highly recommended, though not yet mandatory, unless required by your position or activity on campus. The CDC considers any temperature over 100.4 F to be indicative of illness.

Humboldt State has conducted tests on all student residents, and second round testing is well underway. One additional non-resident student has tested positive since Saturday after choosing to be tested at the Student Health Center. That case was not related to residence hall move-in. Another has been cleared by Humboldt County Public Health.

No Humboldt State students tested positive today as testing of all on-campus residents continues. 

A total of five student residents have tested positive. They had not shown symptoms or felt ill prior to moving into the residence halls. Humboldt State has administered approximately 600 tests, and County Public Health officials have shared with HSU that approximately 600 test results have been completed. The positive rate of those results is approximately 0.83 percent, compared to a county rate of 1.68 percent and the state rate of 5.6 percent.

One additional HSU student resident has tested positive for COVID-19.

As of today, Humboldt State University has conducted more than 600 tests for nearly all students moving into campus residence halls. A small number of students have not yet arrived and are moving in over the next two days.

All five of the students with positive tests were asymptomatic. They had not shown symptoms or felt ill prior to traveling to this community.

One HSU student resident tested positive in the latest round of COVID-19 testing.

As of Friday, Humboldt State University had conducted COVID-19 tests for nearly all students moving into campus residence halls. A small number of students have not yet arrived and are expected to move in over the next two days.
