Humboldt State University is monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and closely working with, and following stringent guidelines from, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), State of California, and Humboldt County health agencies.

  • The California State University system has approved Humboldt State University offering limited face-to-face courses this fall.
  • HSU is operating virtually. 
  • HSU’s plans are aligned with the Humboldt County 'Shelter in Place' order. All access to campus facilities is closed to the general public. 

La Universidad Estatal de Humboldt (HSU) está monitoreando el Nuevo Coronavirus (COVID-19) y está trabajando de cerca con las estrictas guías de Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC), el Estado de California, y las agencias de salud del Condado de Humboldt.

  • El sistema de la Universidad Estatal de California (CSU) aprobó a la Universidad Estatal de Humboldt que ofrezca cursos limitados cara-a-cara este otoño.
  • HSU esta operando virtualmente.
  • Los planes actuales de HSU están alineados con la orden del Condado de Humboldt de quedarse en casa.  Todo el acceso a las instalaciones del campus está cerrado al público en general.

Humboldt County Public Health has announced that the county has moved into the red pandemic tier. Community risk level is considered substantial at this level and new restrictions will be in place. Learn more about the county’s response and closures here.

Each day before coming to campus, everyone, including students, is required to do a wellness self-check -- another measure to prevent the spread of illness. If you have any of the listed symptoms that are uncommon for you (for example, many people have allergies and may have some of those symptoms regularly), please do not come to campus and follow the appropriate guidelines.

Humboldt State University’s Spring semester will be similar to Fall as far as plans for instruction, flexible repopulation of campus, and student experience. The first two weeks of the semester and the two weeks following Spring Break will be virtual to allow for quarantine. There will be some face-to-face classes and campus operations will continue to be mostly virtual.

At this time, in-person events on campus aren’t allowed and the campus remains closed to the general public.

As you know, last spring HSU offered flexibility regarding grading. Given that we are still dealing with the effects of the pandemic, the campus is extending the flexibility and these include:

The Campus Community--students, staff, and faculty--has collaborated closely and had a successful and safe semester so far. Through rigorous testing, adherence to safety protocols, and a full campus response to COVID-19, there are currently no active cases in the campus community.

But that doesn’t mean the University can let down its guard. Please continue to adhere to the Social Responsibility Commitment.

Based on new guidance provided today by the California State University system, Humboldt State University will continue offering most courses in a virtual format for Spring 2021.
