The Humboldt community has rallied and supported one another during the challenges of recent months. Now, as we head into the summer break, it is important to continue with that and also to be aware of the disparate impact of the pandemic, which has amplified a number of equity issues and raised concerns about bias faced by people of color and people with other marginalized identities and their intersections.

Cal Poly Humboldt’s athletics conference - the California Collegiate Athletic Association - has suspended Fall sports competition. The announcement follows CSU Chancellor’s White’s announcement that the vast majority of courses at CSU campuses will be virtual for the Fall semester as part of the ongoing response to COVID-19.

Cal Poly Humboldt is committed to assisting as many students as possible through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a new law meant to help individuals and businesses, including colleges and universities, cover emergency expenses related to COVID-19.

Under the CARES Act, the University will allocate $5,151,499 to the following groups of currently enrolled students, who will receive the full amount, even if there are any outstanding charges on their Humboldt account:

 COVID-19 Update: Travel Suspension Extended

Face coverings must be worn by anyone who enters an indoor facility other than their residence, or while outdoors when the person is unable to maintain a six-foot distance from another person at all times, beginning Friday, April 24, per the most recent Humboldt County Public Health Order.

This applies to anyone making essential trips on the Humboldt campus. Please note a statewide shelter in place order is still in effect. View the county order here (pdf)

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cal Poly Humboldt has decided to cancel all in-person programs and events that were scheduled to take place over the summer through August 14, based on continued guidance from the CSU Chancellor’s Office and state and local officials. These activities include but is not limited to:

  • Summer conferences, festivals, and workshops

  • Camps and Clinics

In order to promote and share online events, Humboldt has created the “Virtual Quad.” 

This is a place to share Humboldt-related virtual gatherings, including lectures, club activities, performances, and more. Please help the campus community stay connected by sharing your activities. It’s one way we can all continue to learn and have fun.

College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly Humboldt are both facing immense budget challenges due to COVID-19, according to early projections being shared today at a meeting of CR’s Board of Trustees and later at a meeting of Humboldt’s University Senate.
